Mice, Rats & Exclusion — Crown Point & NW Indiana

Rodent Control

Rodents do not leave on their own, and they rarely arrive alone. The Green Advantage has been removing mice and rats from Northwest Indiana homes and businesses since 1994 — inspecting for entry points, treating the population, and sealing the openings so the problem ends instead of repeating.

Inspection First, Not Traps First

Rodents get in through gaps you would not think twice about. A mouse needs an opening the width of a pencil; a rat needs about half an inch. Utility penetrations, garage door corners, weep holes and roof-line junctions are where we find them most often in Northwest Indiana homes.

Every job starts with an inspection that locates the entry points and the runways, because trapping without sealing simply makes room for the next one.

  • Interior and exterior entry-point survey
  • Runway, droppings and rub-mark identification
  • Moisture and harbourage conditions noted
  • Written findings before any treatment

Treatment, Exclusion and Monitoring

Removing the rodents already inside is the short part. Keeping them out is the work that lasts.

We treat, then physically seal the openings that let them in, then monitor so you know the problem has actually ended rather than paused.

  • Targeted interior treatment, safe around families and pets
  • Exclusion — sealing gaps, weep holes and utility penetrations
  • Monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly monitoring options
  • Commercial and warehouse programmes available

Mice or Rats? It Changes the Treatment

House mice and Norway rats behave differently, travel different distances and respond to different placements. Treating one as though it were the other is the most common reason a DIY attempt fails.

Part of the inspection is establishing which you have, and where the population is actually living.

  • House mice — small range, high reproduction, indoor nesting
  • Norway rats — burrowing, larger range, exterior harbourage
  • Species-appropriate placement and product selection

Common Questions

How do I know if I have mice or rats?

Droppings are the clearest indicator — mouse droppings are rice-grain sized, rat droppings are noticeably larger and blunter. Rub marks along skirting and burrows outside the foundation point to rats. The inspection confirms it.

Safety shapes how we place everything. Products are positioned where rodents travel and people and pets do not, and your technician explains every placement before leaving.

Trapping removes the animals present; it does nothing about the opening they used. Without exclusion, the space is simply vacant for the next one. That is why sealing is part of the service rather than an upsell.

Yes. We service warehouses, retail, grocery, restaurants, apartment buildings and property management accounts, with monitoring schedules built around inspection requirements.
